Photographed: The iBasso IT01 V2

The iBasso IT01 is a popular and highly acclaimed $100 single-dynamic-driver earphone which I purchased from iBasso in the spring of 2018. Here some photos of the updated version that I received as warranty exchange. Full review to follow. You find details of the iBasso IT01 on its product page.

You never change a winning team…do you? The original iBasso IT01 had a much more subdued midrange and the revision has this annoying Chifi peak (between 2 and 4 kHz) added that typically serves as an eardrum excavator.

i like the IT01 but can’t help but feel it’s been surpassed sonically by its $100 chifi peers (toneking, simgot, tfz, etc.) it is undoubtedly beautifully built and packaged with a great cable and therefore the classic gateway drug.

Apples to apples: the Toneking still appears interesting but I will buy the JVC FDX01 on drop, when it comes out on 5th Sept. Arguably the world’s best single DD.

The IT01 remains its Sennheiseresque charm with its fuzzy warmth…it is somewhat of a chicken soup for my soul.
